Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) – The Cincinnati Bengals made it official on Tuesday and placed wide receiver Terrell Owens on injured reserve. Owens suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee during this past Sunday’s game against Cincinnati. He had originally hurt the knee during a December 5 contest against New Orleans. Terrell Owens is having surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee, ending his season. The Cincinnati Bengals receiver hurt the knee a couple of weeks ago, but kept playing. He aggravated it while making a cut on the opening series of a 19-17 win over Cleveland on Sunday and left the field. Owens flew to Birmingham, Ala., to be examined by Dr. James Andrews on Monday. He tweeted that he was going to have surgery later in the day. The 37-year-old receiver has been one of the league’s most productive receivers, ranking in the top 10 in catches and yards. He hopes to play for two or three more years. He joined the Bengals on a one-year contract and is a free agent after the season.

When the Cincinnati Bengals signed Terrell Owens last summer and paired him with Chad Ochocinco, we guessed every day would be the Fourth of July. Bang-zoom, Alice! When Batman and Robin weren’t lighting up the scoreboard, they’d be microwaving minicams and tape recorders all over town.
