Bengals not looking like they’ll trade Palmer by…

The NFL trading deadline will arrive on Oct. 18 and it’s looking like it’ll pass without Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer(notes) moving on to another team, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Palmer, of course, hasn’t played a down for the Bengals this season since he said in the offseason that he’s done playing for Cincy and will retire if the team doesn’t trade him. No trade or retirement papers have appeared yet — and neither appears to be on the horizon, either. Bengals owner Mike Brown(notes) has said that he doesn’t plan on giving in to Palmer. And it’s looking like he’s a man of his word. Follow Scoop du Jour on Twitter or Facebook. Source: Cincinnati Enquirer Related: Carson Palmer, Cincinnati Bengals

Bengals RB Cedric Benson content with hearing,…

The running back was glad to be done with it. “The meeting was the most stressful thing for me,” Benson said Wednesday. “I wanted that to go well and I felt it did. That’s behind me now. We’ll hope for no issues at all but if for some reason they want to bully the system and create an issue, then I’ve got to be receptive to that.” It would be a big setback for the Bengals to lose Benson, who has been their leading rusher each of the last three seasons. Backup Bernard Scott has played sparingly, carrying only eight times during the first three games. The Bengals have given tryouts to free agent running backs Larry Johnson and Clinton Portis, but coach Marvin Lewis said on Wednesday those were scheduled before the team know of Benson’s predicament. Lewis expects Benson to be available to play this week. “If we don’t hear something generally by Tuesday, we’re going to assume everything is going to go status quo,” Lewis said. “Otherwise it puts you at a bit of a disadvantage. But we’re prepared either way. We’ve been on this thing.” The possibility that Benson and cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones could be suspended has miffed their teammates. Offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth — the team’s union representative — is upset that eight players are facing discipline for incidents that happened during the NFL’s lockout. Benson was a free agent during the lockout, when he was arrested on a misdemeanor assault charge in Texas. Benson served five days in a Texas jail before the start of the season to settle two misdemeanor assault cases from the past two years. “I feel it’s unfair,” Whitworth said Wednesday. “If I’d have been injured in the offseason during the lockout, they could cut me and have no repercussions for it. The NFL could say, ‘You were injured and you weren’t an employee of ours because there was a lockout.’ By the same token, they want to punish guys and say you are an employee of the NFL during the lockout when it comes to discipline and so we can punish you. That doesn’t make any sense. “I think we’re going down muddy waters here. I’m either an employee of NFL or not. I don’t condone their actions, I don’t condone what they’ve done, but they weren’t employed.” Benson met with Commissioner Roger Goodell after his first arrest in connection with a bar fight in Austin, Texas. Goodell didn’t punish him for that case, but told him to stay out of trouble. “It was kind of like, it would be tough to work in my favor if I showed back up in there,” Benson said. Benson was surprised to find that his arrest last July would be used against him. After a new collective bargaining was approved, the NFL Players Association agreed that eight players could be disciplined for offseason incidents, while 25 others would not. “I was really caught off-guard by the players association, honestly, because that is a players association,” Benson said. “They are supposed to be an all-for-one type deal, you know? They are supposed to have the best interest of the players in mind. Unfortunately with the new comings of this letter or agreement, it represents the exact opposite.” Two union representatives were at the hearing Tuesday on Benson’s behalf. “Our responsibility is to protect the rights of all our players,” NFLPA spokesman George Atallah said. “That is what we did (at the hearing).” ___ AP Sports Writer Rachel Cohen in New York contributed to this report. Bengals’ Palmer not headed to Miami

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer(notes) hasn’t retired yet even though he threatened this last offseason that he would if the Bengals didn’t trade him. There was a brief window of time Tuesday when it appeared that Palmer may have been moving somewhere else, but it turns out, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer, that the rumors are false. His supposed destination? The 0-3 Miami Dolphins. A “high-ranking club official” with the Bengals said there’s “zero truth” to the rumor, the Enquirer notes, which had the Dolphins sending “a conditional third-round pick that could turn into a second if certain goals are reached.” The Bengals are still holding out for a higher return on Palmer than that. Let the rumors come to you. Follow Scoop du Jour on Twitter or Facebook. Source: Cincinnati Enquirer Related: Carson Palmer, Cincinnati Bengals, Miami Dolphins
